Bangkok: The Prime Minister has directed all government agencies to brace for the impending Super El Ni±o and has mandated them to present comprehensive reports on water and agricultural security strategies to the Cabinet in the upcoming week.
According to Thai News Agency, Ms. Ratchada Thanadirek, the spokesperson for the Prime Minister's Office, conveyed after the recent Cabinet meeting that Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul, who also serves as the Minister of Interior, expressed his concerns regarding the Super El Ni±o phenomenon. He highlighted that relevant agencies have already initiated and implemented measures to alleviate the potential impacts on essential sectors such as water supply, agriculture, industry, environment, and biodiversity. The Prime Minister underscored the importance of these measures, as they are crucial for the well-being of citizens and the nation's economic stability.
The agencies responsible are set to update the Cabinet on their action plans and the progress of their preparedness efforts in the upcoming meeting. The Prime Minister also voiced concerns about the possible effects of erratic weather conditions, including thunderstorms, strong winds, and summer storms, which have led to incidents of falling trees and branches in various regions.
The Ministry of Interior, along with the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration, local administrative bodies, and related agencies, have been instructed to swiftly conduct surveys in high-risk areas, trim trees, and inspect advertising signs, structures, and public utilities that might be vulnerable. They are also tasked with developing preventive measures and contingency plans to effectively manage any situation that may arise unexpectedly.
