Hat yai: The Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior, Anutin Charnvirakul, visited Kim Yong Market in Hat Yai Municipality, Songkhla Province, to oversee flood recovery efforts and initiate a seven-day garbage clearing operation. Over 300 volunteers from a nationwide force of more than 4,000 were mobilized to expedite the cleanup and restore normalcy in Hat Yai City.

According to Thai News Agency, Anutin praised the officials for their service and acknowledged the military’s support in this large-scale recovery mission. He noted that while most residents have returned home, about 30 remain at the Prince of Songkla University shelter. The immediate objective is to clear the garbage accumulated during the floods, with a call for public cooperation to facilitate swift collection within the remaining seven days of the 14-day restoration plan.

The Prime Minister highlighted the importance of understanding among commanders and officials to ensure smooth execution of tasks, minimizing public dissatisfaction and preventing any conflicts. He also addressed delays in flood relief payments, urging agencies to address these promptly. Emphasizing the need for an efficient online payment system, Anutin set a target for completing relief payments by next week.

In addition, Anutin plans to propose an increase in the compensation budget to the Cabinet for those not previously surveyed, covering Songkhla and neighboring provinces affected by floods. A business recovery plan offering interest-free short-term loans is in progress, with the Office of Insurance Commission expediting insurance payments.

Subcommittees have been established following the Lessons Learned Committee meeting to focus on relief, rehabilitation, prevention, and environmental issues. Field visits by these committees aim to provide a clearer understanding of the situation, with findings to be presented to the Economic Policy Committee.

In preparation for potential future rainfall, the Prime Minister emphasized the importance of readiness and utilizing available resources. Following his visit, Anutin shared a meal with Defense Volunteers and officials, fostering a sense of camaraderie.
