Songkhla: The Prime Minister led a delegation to Songkhla to monitor the flood response plan and affirmed that the government has never abandoned the people.
According to Thai News Agency, the Prime Minister, accompanied by Minister of Interior Anutin Charnvirakul, Prime Minister's Advisor Wan Muhammad Nor Matha, and several regional officials, visited Wat Tha Chang in the Tha Chang Subdistrict of Songkhla Province. During the visit, the Prime Minister reiterated his commitment to addressing flood-related issues, urging for the repair of Canal R.1 to be completed before the year's end to prevent future flooding.
The Prime Minister highlighted the inauguration of a new road connecting the Sadao customs checkpoint with Malaysia's Bukit Kayu Hitam checkpoint, aimed at facilitating trade. He emphasized that his visit was not merely ceremonial but focused on preparing for natural disasters, drawing lessons from last year's Hat Yai floods to ensure better preparedness and damage prevention.
In a symbolic gesture, the Prime Minister introduced local officials as "defendants," indicating their shared responsibility in the flood response. He assured the public that he and his team had witnessed the flood damage firsthand and were committed to expediting relief and prevention efforts.
The Prime Minister inspected the Phuminath Damri Canal, or Khlong R.1, where the Royal Irrigation Department and the Department of Highways are set to undertake necessary repairs funded by the central government. This initiative is part of a broader strategy to mitigate future flood risks in Songkhla.
Addressing the situation in the southern border provinces, the Prime Minister expressed the government's commitment to peace, with Mr. Wan Muhammad Nor Matha playing a crucial role in negotiations.
The Prime Minister engaged with local villagers, inquiring about the Thai Help Thai Plus project. He reassured them of ongoing support and emphasized the project's positive impact on reducing expenses and stimulating the economy.
