Bangkok: Her Royal Highness Princess Sirivannavari Nariratana Rajakanya attended an exhibition highlighting the wisdom and craftsmanship of Thai textiles. The exhibition, titled "Legacy of Cultural Capital: Fashion Category," focused on reinterpreting traditional craftsmanship for the modern era.
According to Thai News Agency, the event was organized by the Office of the Prime Minister through the Department of Public Relations to honor Her Majesty Queen Sirikit, the Queen Mother, who played a pivotal role in conserving Thai textiles. The exhibition aimed to continue her royal aspirations as envisioned by Her Royal Highness Princess Sirivannavari Nariratana Rajakanya. Notable attendees included Ms. Traisuli Traisaranakul, Secretary to the Prime Minister; Ms. Supamas Isarabhakdi, Minister attached to the Prime Minister's Office; and Mrs. Yupa Thawiwattanakitbavorn, among others, who welcomed the royal entourage at ICONSIAM shopping mall's Thara Hall.
The exhibition was presented under the concept of 'Legacy: Creative Continuity and Creativity,' emphasizing heritage as a dynamic value that can be developed and reinterpreted for contemporary relevance while maintaining its roots. The project involved fieldwork in 10 model communities across Thailand, including the Sriwichai Weaving Group in Surat Thani and the Montratikarn Group in Kalasin, among others.
The exhibition showcased the journey of Thai textiles, from foundational wisdom and creative processes to modern designs, reflecting regional identities and unique techniques. A panel discussion featured experts, designers, and entrepreneurs discussing the preservation of traditional knowledge, adding value to Thai textiles, and developing fashion products for global competition. A special fashion show displayed works from model communities, featuring models, artists, and celebrities, showcasing the versatility and timeless beauty of Thai textiles.
The project aims to preserve cultural heritage while benefiting local farmers, artisans, and entrepreneurs by improving their quality of life and distributing income within the community. It seeks to expand market opportunities, preserve local wisdom, and foster pride in Thai identity, supporting the grassroots economy and promoting sustainable cultural tourism.
