Bangkok: The private sector is forecasting a 5-10% increase in spending during the Chinese New Year period, aiming for a recovery in the retail sector in 2026. The anticipated growth is driven by tourism and cultural spending, amidst economic volatility and the need to closely monitor government policy directions. Private sector leaders are urging the new government to swiftly implement measures to stimulate domestic purchasing power and tourism.
According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Chakrit Chatupanyachotikul, Deputy Managing Director of Marketing, Public Relations, and Social Activities at Central Food Retail Co., Ltd., emphasized that while the overall Thai retail market in 2026 will face challenges due to gradual economic growth, which SCB EIC forecasts at 3.7%, there is strong belief in a year of hope and recovery. The recovery of tourism and cultural spending is seen as a crucial driver for this growth. Mr. Chakrit suggests that the new government should implement policies to stimulate domestic spending and tourism, as these are essential for economic growth.
