Bangkok: Krieng Kalptinant, a well-known figure in the Pheu Thai party and former Deputy Minister of Interior, has passed away at the age of 74. His death marks the end of a significant political career that impacted Ubon Ratchathani Province and beyond.
According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Krieng Kalptinant died peacefully from cancer at Vichaiyut Hospital at 10:10 AM. His family plans to transport his body to Ubon Ratchathani for funeral rites, reflecting the strong ties he maintained with his home province throughout his life.
Born on November 27, 1952, in Mueang Ubon Ratchathani District, Mr. Krieng was a long-serving public servant. He held a Bachelor's degree in Liberal Arts and a Master's degree in Educational Administration from Ubon Ratchathani Rajabhat University. In his personal life, he was married to Mrs. Rojana Kalptinant, a former mayor of Ubon Ratchathani Municipality. The couple had three children, including Mr. Worasit Kalptinant, who follows in his father's footsteps as a Member of Parliament for Ubon Ratchathani Province.
Mr. Krieng's political journey began in 1995 when he was elected as a Member of Parliament for Ubon Ratchathani Province's Constituency 1 under the Democrat Party. He made a notable victory against Chaiyasiri Ruangkanchanaset, a dominant figure in southern Isaan politics at the time. Mr. Krieng's career spanned five terms as a Member of Parliament, during which he contributed significantly to the political landscape of the region.
