Bangkok: The Ministry of Public Health is actively monitoring the emergence of the NB.1.8.1 COVID-19 variant. Minister of Public Health, Pattanawut, reassured the public that there is no cause for panic, as the new variant exhibits symptoms similar to previous strains. The Minister underscored the importance of wearing face masks to curb the spread of infection.
According to Thai News Agency, the NB.1.8.1 variant, discovered last week, is a mutation of a previously identified strain in Thailand. Minister Pattanawut explained that the symptoms mirror those of earlier strains, including coughing, sore throat, and fever, with a notable emphasis on sore throat. The Ministry is maintaining a rigorous monitoring protocol to manage the situation effectively.
Mr. Pattana Promphat, Minister of Public Health, emphasized that while the symptoms do not indicate increased severity, the Ministry remains vigilant. The Department of Disease Control has issued statements highlighting the ongoing surveillance efforts. Mr. Pattana mentioned that there is no immediate need for additional vaccine measures. He refrained from speculating on whether the spread would mirror the rapid transmission seen during the Omicron outbreak, suggesting that such details be addressed by medical professionals.
