Raid on Rayong Land Office officials demanding bribes

NACC Rayong joins forces to arrest officials of the Rayong Provincial Land Office, Ban Khai Branch, for demanding bribes. Mr. Niwatchai Kasem Mongkol, Secretary-General of the NACC Office, and Mr. Wanit Suphawanichsakul, Assistant Secretary-General of the NACC Region 2, assigned Mr. Chaiwat Phunilammai, Director of the NACC Office in Rayong Province, to integrate with the Office of the National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC) and the Anti-Corruption Division (ACD) to join forces to arrest the Rayong Provincial Land Officer, Ban Khai Branch, and related officers in the case of demanding money from housing estate operators to proceed with land subdivision and land title deed division in Nikhom Phatthana District, Rayong Province, by demanding 2,000 baht per plot, totaling 54 plots, totaling 108,000 baht. On August 2, 2024, the victim reported to the PACC that a land official from Rayong Province, Ban Khai Branch, had demanded money from the owner of the land in a housing estate. The process of finding the facts and collecting evidence began. Later, on August 22, 2024, the victim negotiated with the land official to reduce the amount to 100,000 baht and agreed to deposit the money with another land official the following week. The PACC collected evidence, leading to the integration with the NACC Region 2 Office, the NACC Rayong Provincial Office, and the Anti-Corruption Division to arrest the suspect. After the arrest, a search of the office drawer of the land official revealed cash evidence of the bribe in an envelope and several other envelopes of cash in a bag, totaling 412,000 baht. The officials will continue to expand the investigation. The Anti-Corruption Division has now taken 3 suspects into custody to proceed with legal action according to their duties and authority.
