Hat yai: A kind-hearted rescue worker has shared his experience of rescuing a pig stranded in the floodwaters of Hat Yai, where it had been floating with a rope for five days. Upon rescuing the pig, the worker named it “Chao Boonrod” and embarked on a 1,515-kilometer journey to Udon Thani to care for it, promising to nurture the pig until it reaches its full age and ensuring it will not be sent to a slaughterhouse.
According to Thai News Agency, villagers captured footage of “Chao Boonrod” holding onto a rope while floating in the floodwaters in the Hat Yai District of Songkhla Province. The pig remained this way for over five days until rescue volunteers from Udon Thani Province arrived to provide assistance. The volunteers transported the pig to Udon Thani, a significant distance of 1,515 kilometers, where it found a new home.
Mr. Sai Chon, 51, and Mr. Chaisit, 44, who are volunteer rescue workers with the Udon Sawang Methadham Foundation, reported that they received a call about a pig trapped in a metal cage covering a spirit house while assisting people in the vicinity of a private school in Hat Yai District. The pig had been stuck for five days, surrounded by high and rising floodwaters.
Once the water level receded, the pig was rescued, albeit covered in wounds, and with no one claiming it. The pig’s origins remain unknown, but it is believed to have been washed ashore from another area. Villagers requested the rescue workers adopt the pig, as they were unable to care for it themselves. After completing their mission, the volunteers decided to take the male pig back to Udon Thani, naming it “Boonrod.”
Mr. Sai Chon expressed his initial intention to donate the pig to a temple, but if the temple could not accommodate it, he would have his fellow volunteer, Mr. Chaisit, care for it until it grew old. He assured that the pig would not be killed or sent to a slaughterhouse, honoring its survival and aiming to prevent any further harm.
