Samut songkhram: Rescue workers and Wat Lad Paeng temple collaborated to transport and cremate the body of a 34-year-old woman weighing over 250 kg, free of charge.
According to Thai News Agency, the joint effort was initiated after the village heads of Moo 10 and Moo 11, Lat Yai Subdistrict, requested assistance for a deceased woman whose body could not be accommodated by most crematoriums due to its size. Twelve rescuers from the Sawang Benjatham Foundation in Samut Songkhram were mobilized to move the body from Somdej Phra Buddhaleertlah Hospital in Mae Klong Subdistrict to Wat Lad Paeng, a distance of 10 kilometers, using a convoy of seven rescue vehicles.
Phra Khru Phisarn Samutrakit, the abbot of Wat Lat Paeng, had his assistant abbot prepare the venue for the cremation. The temple, along with village officials and community members, facilitated the cremation ceremony, overcoming the challenge of finding a suitable site for the body.
Mr. Thaworn Siang-on, an emergency medical technician from the Sawang Benjatham Samut Songkhram Rescue Foundation, shared insights into the operation. The rescue team initially responded to a report of a patient struggling to breathe. Due to the woman's weight, moving her from the second floor of a wooden house required significant effort and support from the hospital. Sadly, she passed away, prompting her relatives to seek assistance for her cremation. The coordinated effort involved 12 volunteers and demonstrated the community's commitment to support and compassion in challenging circumstances.
