Nonthaburi: Rescue workers reveal moments of rescuing victims after a school shooting, as students fled for their lives; injured and deceased were found inside the building. Mr. Chirattikorn Banjongkit, Assistant Head of the Volunteer Department of the Poh Teck Tung Foundation, shared insights into the assistance provided to those affected by the violent incident at Thepsirin Nonthaburi School. Following a report of a shooting inside the school, Poh Teck Tung Nonthaburi center officers were dispatched due to their proximity to the scene.
According to Thai News Agency, upon arrival, officers confirmed the reality of the situation, with gunshots echoing and students attempting to evacuate. Additional support was requested immediately. Injured students were found descending from the building, and volunteer rescuers, local authorities, and the municipality quickly transported them to hospitals in Nonthaburi province for urgent care.
Officials reported the first fatality found during transport efforts, though rescue attempts were unsuccessful. Mr. Chirattikorn noted that initial information from students suggested the perpetrator shot indiscriminately, though the motive remains unclear. Both students and teachers were injured in the incident.
Mr. Chirattikorn emphasized the sensitivity and distress of the incident, expressing hope that such events do not recur. He mentioned that determining the motive and details requires further investigation by authorities, while the foundation's initial mission is focused on first aid and transporting the injured.
Officials indicated gunshot wounds were primarily on the torso, but the exact number of bullets is undetermined pending forensic analysis. The crime scene has been secured to facilitate investigations.
Mr. Nop, brother of Teacher Khun Nun, who taught Thai to 3rd-year secondary students, recounted learning of the incident and his unsuccessful attempts to contact his sister. He discovered she had been shot and killed in Building 5. Despite not having seen her body, he shared that his sister had a deep connection to the school, having been a student, intern, and eventually a teacher there.
Mr. Nop recalled his sister's positive remarks about her students, highlighting her loving nature and strong ties to the school. He emphasized concerns about teacher and student safety, noting this incident was not isolated and underscoring the rapid dissemination of media, especially online.
