Retired Woman Arrested for Using Forged License Plate in Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya

Phra nakhon si ayutthaya: Police apprehended a retired woman who reported her vehicle registration but used a different license plate, claiming she didn't know.

According to Thai News Agency, the Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) apprehended a retired woman who admitted to registering her vehicle using a different license plate, claiming she was unaware it was fake. The arrest was conducted by the Highway Police Division (HPD), under the direction of Pol. Lt. Gen. Natthasak Chaowanasai, Commander of the CIB, and Pol. Maj. Gen. Sophon Saraphat, Deputy Commander of the CIB, along with other relevant officers. The suspect, Ms. Petcharat, aged 60, was charged with "forgery and use of forged official documents," and evidence was seized during the arrest.

The evidence included a white three-row passenger car, a Honda CR-V with the license plate number ChP-xx Bangkok, two license plates bearing the same registration number, an annual vehicle tax sticker, and a car key. The arrest took place at kilometer 33-34 on Highway 32, Asian Highway (outbound), Khwan Mueang Subdistrict, Bang Pahan District, Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya Province.

While patrolling the area, officers noticed the Honda CR-V's license plate appeared irregular, with an unusual graphic design. Initial checks revealed no record of the vehicle's registration, prompting the officers to stop the car for further inspection. Ms. Petcharat, who identified herself as the driver, presented her driver's license, annual tax sticker, and the suspect license plates. Although her driver's license was valid and the annual tax sticker was affixed correctly, further inspection showed the license plate lacked specific identifying letters, and the tax sticker information was absent in the system.

The arresting officers charged Ms. Petcharat with forgery and use of forged official documents and took her into custody along with the seized evidence. She was handed over to investigating officers at Bang Pahan Police Station for further legal proceedings.

During initial questioning, Ms. Petcharat explained that on September 25, 2020, she registered her vehicle and received the disputed documents from a female salesperson. She claimed to be unaware of the inaccuracies and the forgery until stopped by police and denied all charges.
