Chiang Mai:A violent altercation between two teenage gangs in Chiang Mai resulted in the tragic death of a nurse's assistant. The incident unfolded when the Bang Peet gang clashed with another group of over 40 teenagers, leading to gunfire and explosive attacks in front of a restaurant on the Super Highway near the Don Chan Bridge.
According to Thai News Agency, a female assistant nurse, who stopped to offer help after mistaking the scene for an accident, was fatally struck by a pickup truck driven by a member of the teenage gang. The incident occurred late last night.
Police have since apprehended several suspects, aged between 20 and 25, and recovered three motorcycles and a pickup truck involved in the incident. The pickup truck showed signs of damage, including a shattered windshield and bloodstains. Authorities are skeptical of the driver's claim that he was attempting to escape gunfire and are investigating previous offenses by the suspects.
The conflict reportedly arose from a feud between the Bang Phik gang and a group of Shan teenagers, who had previously challenged each other on social media. After dispersing initially due to police presence, the groups regrouped for a second attack, during which the fatal collision occurred. Authorities are working to apprehend the remaining suspects and determine if any parental involvement supported the criminal activities.
