Phetchaburi: The Royal Irrigation Department is actively monitoring the water situation in Phetchaburi Province, focusing on rainwater management and preparing for potential droughts. The Director-General of the Royal Irrigation Department recently visited the province to oversee and accelerate the progress of crucial water management projects.
According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Suriyapol Nuchanong, Director-General of the Royal Irrigation Department, led a team to Phetchaburi Province to assess and expedite the completion of significant initiatives. Accompanied by Mr. Noraset Songthong, Director of Irrigation Office 14, and other officials, Mr. Nuchanong reviewed the Huai Sai Reservoir water supplementation project, which is part of the broader Phetchaburi Water Resource Development and Tourism Promotion Project. This project aligns with His Majesty the King's royal policy aimed at developing royal assets for public benefit.
In addition, the team evaluated the progress of the Phase 3 improvements to the Huai Mae Prachan Reservoir, another royal initiative in Nong Ya Plong Subdistrict, Nong Ya Long District. The objective is to enhance water storage capacity from 42.20 million cubic meters to 49.09 million cubic meters, representing an increase of 6.89 million cubic meters. The improvements include sediment dredging to boost water availability during shortages, thus supporting agricultural needs and ensuring a stable water supply for farmers in the region. This initiative is expected to alleviate flooding and drought issues, manage floodwaters sustainably during the rainy season, and augment water resources in the Phetchaburi River basin during dry periods.
