Bangkok:A ceremonial offering was held for the Royal Khon performance of "Sita" ahead of its opening on November 5th. The event took place at the Main Auditorium of the Thailand Cultural Centre and was presided over by Air Chief Marshal Sathitpong Sukvimol, Royal Secretary to His Majesty the King and Vice Chairman and Secretary-General of the Foundation for the Promotion of Arts and Crafts under the patronage of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit.
According to Thai News Agency, the ceremony aimed to bring good fortune before the performance and was attended by committee members, expert teachers, artists, actors, and youth. Phra Maha Ratchakru Phithi Sri Wisutthikun officiated the ceremony.
The "Sita" Khon performance retells the story of Sita from the Ramakien epic, written by King Rama I. It encompasses her birth, marriage to Rama, abduction by Ravana to Lanka, and the ordeal by fire to prove her purity, featuring elaborate sets and performance elements. This performance is part of efforts to preserve Thai arts and culture, promote craftsmanship, and provide opportunities for young people to learn about and continue the tradition of Khon, ensuring it remains an integral part of Thai society.
