Royal Thai Army Condemns Cambodia’s Attacks on Civilians

Bangkok: The Royal Thai Army today condemned Cambodia’s indiscriminate attacks on civilian communities, affecting hundreds of thousands of Thais. This morning, the Royal Thai Army’s Facebook page posted that Major General Winthai Suvari, spokesperson for the Royal Thai Army, stated that the Army condemns the Cambodian side’s actions in using military force and weapons to attack areas along the Thai-Cambodian border. This constitutes a serious violation of the principles of civilian protection under international humanitarian law and international norms, directly affecting many innocent Thai citizens.

According to Thai News Agency, the unrest along the border remains tense, affecting 400,000 people. 23 people have died and 6 have been injured. More than 30 houses have been damaged, 20 hospitals and 201 community health centers have been affected. Several educational institutions have had to suspend classes.

The Army spokesperson stated that the Cambodian side’s indiscriminate attacks are inevitably causing further damage. Thai citizens should not be targeted or affected. The Army calls on Cambodia to immediately cease its violent actions against innocent civilians and to strictly adhere to international and humanitarian law.

Meanwhile, the Facebook page of the 2nd Army Region posted that Cambodia has violated the Geneva Conventions and International Human Rights Act as follows: using historical sites as military bases, using civilians to fire shots intending to kill, assembling ammunition and explosives at a military position located within an ancient site (Prasat Ta Kwai), and bringing civilians into combat zones indiscriminately and using them for military operations, both directly and indirectly.

Meanwhile, the Facebook page of Wassana Nanom, a well-known military correspondent, posted that the Navy revealed Cambodia had previously used snipers to assassinate a Navy commander, aiming to kill the general before a conflict broke out. Rear Admiral Parach Rattanachaiyapan, spokesman for the Royal Thai Navy, revealed that in addition to Cambodia’s long-standing encroachment on Thai territory, which necessitated military operations, it was also discovered that prior to the fighting on December 9, 2025, an incident occurred where Cambodian snipers attempted to assassinate a high-ranking unit commander. After the fighting concludes, the Royal Thai Navy will release all evidence, including the vehicle and bullet fragments.
