Sattahip: The Royal Thai Navy has taken decisive action to aid those affected by severe flooding in the southern region by deploying the HTMS Chakri Naruebet to serve as a floating kitchen, capable of providing 3,000 meals daily.
According to Thai News Agency, Rear Admiral Parat Rattanachaiphan, spokesman for the Royal Thai Navy, announced the deployment of large warships, aircraft, and a special operations team for a large-scale rescue operation. HTMS Chakri Naruebet, departing from the Sattahip Naval Base, is equipped with two helicopters, a medical team, a field kitchen team, rescue equipment, relief supplies, and essential food and water.
The vessel is not only designed to function as a floating air base for helicopter and drone operations but also as a floating kitchen. Its capacity to produce approximately 3,000 cooked meals per day makes it a crucial asset in supporting airlifts to disaster-impacted areas. Additionally, a medical team on board ensures it can serve as a floating hospital if required. Further assistance is anticipated with the preparation to deploy HTMS Chang and HTMS Angthong for additional support.
In a swift move to address the urgent needs of those affected, the Royal Thai Navy has also dispatched a special operations team from the Naval Special Warfare Command. This includes 14 rubber boats and personnel to assist individuals stranded in areas with strong currents. These resources will travel on an Air Force transport plane later today.
