Sattahip: The Royal Thai Navy has embarked on a groundbreaking initiative to generate electricity through floating solar power systems, marking a significant step in actualizing its Green Navy policy. Admiral Thadawut Thadpitakakul, Chief of Staff of the Royal Thai Navy, officiated the opening ceremony of the innovative project at the Nong Kai Tia Reservoir, located at the Sattahip Naval Base in Chonburi Province. The ceremony was attended by Dr. Buranin Rattanasombat, Chief Operating Officer of the New Business and Sustainability Group at PTT Public Company Limited.
According to Thai News Agency, this project is a collaborative effort between the Royal Thai Navy and PTT Public Company Limited, aiming to develop a floating solar power system with an installed capacity of 5.03 megawatt-hours peak (MWp) using locally developed technology. The initiative seeks to bolster energy security, advance the use of clean energy, and enhance energy management efficiency within the Royal Thai Navy.
Admiral Thadawut highlighted that the project is in alignment with the government's environmental management policy and the Royal Thai Navy's Green Navy strategy, "Innovation for a Sustainable Future." This strategy emphasizes the integration of environmentally friendly technologies and innovations in naval development, alongside efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, conserve natural resources, and ensure sustainable energy security. The floating solar power project is projected to improve energy efficiency, cut electricity costs, and potentially reduce greenhouse gas emissions by approximately 82,000 tons of carbon dioxide equivalent over its operational lifespan. This initiative not only underscores the Royal Thai Navy's commitment to its Green Navy policy but also serves as a model for clean energy development, reinforcing both the security and sustainability of the Royal Thai Navy and the nation.
