Salak Phra Forest Fire Chief Regains Consciousness After Surgery

Kanchanaburi: The Head of the Salak Phra Forest Fire has regained consciousness and is under close monitoring by doctors following a critical surgery.

According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Warun Chansawang, head of the Salak Phra-Erawan forest fire control station and assistant head of Erawan National Park, was shot while on duty in Chong Sadao subdistrict, Mueang Kanchanaburi district. The Director-General of the Department of National Parks, Wildlife and Plant Conservation, Mr. Atthapol Charoenchansa, disclosed that Mr. Warun is now conscious and being closely monitored at the hospital.

Medical reports indicate that Mr. Warun sustained severe injuries when a bullet damaged his spleen, necessitating its removal, and penetrated his stomach to reach the diaphragm beneath his lungs. This resulted in severe internal bleeding, with over 4 liters of blood lost in his abdominal cavity.

Doctors have conducted surgery to manage the symptoms, though the bullet has not been located within his body. As such, the medical team is vigilantly observing his recovery.

Mr. Atthapol confirmed that the hospital director and medical team are committed to providing comprehensive medical care. The Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, along with the Department of National Parks, Wildlife and Plant Conservation, continues to monitor and support the officer's medical treatment and welfare.

In a show of solidarity, family members and colleagues from various agencies, including Erawan National Park, Salak Phra Wildlife Sanctuary, and the Internal Security Operations Command, have come together to donate blood and offer support and encouragement to Mr. Warun and his fellow officers.
