Satun Flood Crisis Intensifies as Water Police Accelerate Evacuation Efforts

Satun: Satun is still inundated. Water police are rushing to evacuate flood victims, causing widespread distress. The water is flowing rapidly and violently, making it difficult to reach the area to provide assistance.

According to Thai News Agency, Satun Marine Police and volunteers are actively assisting flood victims in Muang Satun District and Khuan Don District, Satun Province. Utilizing a P.47 boat equipped with an outboard engine, they are delivering food, relief bags, and drinking water to affected areas, including Village No. 5, Village No. 6, and Village No. 7 of Ban Khuan Subdistrict in Muang District, as well as Village No. 6 of Khuan Don Subdistrict in Khuan Don District.

In these areas, efforts are underway to transport children, pregnant women, and the elderly to nearby shelters. Collaboration with the Royal Irrigation Department is ongoing to secure a high-lift vehicle to aid those in distress. Coordination with local administrative departments and district chiefs is also in place for urgent transport cases.

Obstacles in Satun Province, such as mountains, canals, and waterways, are exacerbating the situation, causing the water to flow rapidly and violently. These conditions are hindering rescue efforts and limiting access to the affected areas.

The current situation in Satun Province is dire, with heavy rainfall causing river basins to overflow their banks. Public relations have issued warnings for residents to remain vigilant against flash floods.

Satun Province has declared 7 districts, 21 sub-districts, and 129 villages as disaster areas and emergency relief zones due to the floods. The Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (DDPM) has alerted the public about further rainfall. Heavy rain persists in Mueang, Khuan Kalong, Khuan Don, and Manang districts, and residents are urged to prepare for rising water levels. People are advised to move vehicles to higher ground and evacuate low-lying areas to temporary shelters promptly. The Marine Police hotline for emergencies is 1196.
