Satun Municipality Faces Severe Flooding Impacting Thousands

Satun: The flooding situation in Satun Province has now affected all seven districts, with the worst impacts in the three inner-city districts. Meanwhile, in Trang Province, four districts have been declared disaster zones, with more than 10 schools and child development centers closed.

According to Thai News Agency, floodwaters have inundated Satun Municipality, a catchment area, and the water has flooded the Satun Municipality fresh market. Residents in more than 20 communities in Satun Municipality are rushing to move their belongings to higher ground. The road into Satun City, at the border between Khlong Khut Subdistrict Municipality and Satun Municipality, is impassable. The worst impacts are on La-ngu, Khuan Don, and Mueang districts, where floodwaters remain high. In Satun Province, floodwaters cover all seven districts, with more than 80 schools closed. Currently, 7,632 households are severely affected.

Trang Province has declared four districts as disaster zones. Water levels on both banks of the Trang River in Mueang Trang District have overflowed their banks, inundating several villages in Bang Rak, Na Tham Tai, and Na Ta Luang subdistricts in Mueang Trang District; and Khok Yang, Khuan Thani, Bang Mak, Yan Sue, and Bang Pao subdistricts in Kantang District. These subdistricts are adjacent to the Trang River and serve as floodplains. In some areas, water levels are higher than one meter. Water levels continue to rise in two downstream districts. Rain continued to fall throughout the night and into the morning in Trang Province.

Four districts have been declared disaster zones in the province: Na Yong, Ratsada, Huai Yot, and Yan Ta Khao. The Trang-Phatthalung and Trang-Satun roads remain passable. Regarding the flooding situation in Yan Ta Khao Subdistrict Municipality, Yan Ta Khao District, which is considered the worst in over a decade, water levels have begun to recede this morning, except for low-lying areas along canals near the old bridgehead and the Sunthonnon community. Child development centers and over 10 schools in five districts have been closed for two days pending the water level recedes. Thesaban 7 School (Wat Prasitchai) and Chulabhorn Royal Academy School have announced two additional school closures this morning.
