According to Thai News Agency, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation, Yotsanu Wongsawat, outlined measures following the shooting incident at Thepsirin School in Nonthaburi. He indicated that Minister of Education, Prasert Chantharawong, will propose six national school safety measures to the Cabinet meeting tomorrow, allowing additional input from other ministries before implementation. Actions were already initiated in various schools on August 8th, and consultations with the Secretary-General of the Royal College of Psychiatrists of Thailand are planned for psychological guidance. Yotsanu stressed that the issue requires national attention due to its complexity and the necessity for comprehensive oversight.
Addressing concerns about teacher pressure contributing to the incident, Yotchanan mentioned that a holistic approach is needed, involving the Department of Mental Health and the Ministry of Social Development and Human Security. Discussions have been conducted with the Royal College of Mental Health to ensure a coordinated strategy, leading to a more structured planning process.
In relation to reports of bullying at school, Yotsanan acknowledged that it is an issue for police investigation, but affirmed that the Ministry of Education will maintain safety oversight and collaborate closely on the matter.
In another case concerning a school in Hat Yai District, Songkhla Province, where a contract foreign teacher's employment was terminated, leading to threats, Yotsanan confirmed that the Ministry of Education is managing the situation, emphasizing the critical importance of safety.
