Songkhla: The SEA Games boxing stadium has been moved to the Prince of Songkla University International Auditorium. The Governor of the Sports Authority of Thailand (SAT) confirmed the relocation of the SEA Games boxing stadium from the Southern Main City Stadium (Phru Khang Khao) to the Prince of Songkla University International Conference Hall due to flooding in Songkhla Province.
According to Thai News Agency, Dr. Kongsak Yodmanee, Governor of the Sports Authority of Thailand, revealed that after flooding in many areas in the South, especially Songkhla Province, which is one of the three provinces hosting the 33rd SEA Games, along with Bangkok and Chonburi Provinces, from December 9-20, Songkhla Province will organize 10 sports.
Most recently, there was a report from the Director of the Sports Authority of Thailand, Region 4, Songkhla Province, that the competition venue at the Southern Main City Stadium (Phru Khang Khao), which is used for boxing or Muay Thai competitions, has encountered more flooding problems than other stadiums, which has affected the organization of the SEA Games. Therefore, it has been ordered to be moved to the Prince of Songkla University International Convention Center instead, near the auditorium used for Wushu competitions.
The gymnasium at the Jiranakorn Stadium, Suwanwong Building, Hat Yai Municipality, which is being used for the Pencak Silat competition, is currently experiencing flooding. The field is currently undergoing installation of equipment and a surface for the competition. The impact is minimal. Air conditioning and ground leveling are currently in progress, but the impact is unlikely to be significant. The petanque stadium, located at Tinsulanont Stadium, will be equipped with a roof or tent, as rain is expected to fall during the competition.
Songkhla Province has 10 sports competing in total, with a total of 109 gold medals up for grabs. These include boxing, pencak silat, chess, men’s football, judo, kabaddi, karate, wrestling, petanque, and wushu.
