Bangkok: Sena district residents have been grappling with severe flooding for the past three months, dramatically impacting daily life in the area. The flooding, which affects 17 subdistricts and 134 villages, has forced many families to adapt by living on the second floors of their homes, as 9,338 houses remain submerged.
According to Thai News Agency, the persistent flooding in Sena District is attributed to a combination of heavy rain, storms, and water discharge from the Chao Phraya Dam in Chainat Province. Police Lieutenant General Wattana Yijin, along with a mobile medical unit from the Police General Hospital and local police, visited the affected areas to provide support. They distributed relief bags, basic medicines, and foot ointment to residents in Rang Chorakhe Subdistrict. Ms. Aree Seeklai, a resident, expressed the ongoing struggle as the water level has risen to her house three times, a situation she has become accustomed to due to its annual recurrence.
Efforts to manage the water situation continue as the Chao Phraya Dam has reduced water discharge to 2,400 cubic meters per second. Despite this, water levels in Ang Thong Province remain above critical thresholds, prompting officials to reinforce barriers and deploy pumps. Four districts in Ang Thong have been affected, with 1,861 homes experiencing flooding.
In Nonthaburi, rising seawater levels are anticipated this evening, threatening low-lying riverside communities. Officials have taken preventative measures by installing sandbags and water pumps to mitigate potential flooding in economic zones. The situation requires close monitoring as the high water levels impact several key communities within the province.
