Senate Evaluates BWG’s Industrial Waste Management System in Saraburi

Saraburi: The Senate conducted an inspection of Better World Green (BWG) to assess its industrial waste management practices, with Senator Sukit Thangthong advising the company to enhance its communication with the public regarding its waste disposal processes.

According to Thai News Agency, the inspection was part of a broader effort by a committee of senators to ensure transparency and educate the public about BWG's engineering principles for industrial waste disposal. The site visit allowed senators to witness firsthand the industrial waste and wastewater management systems in place at BWG. The visit included participation from Lieutenant General Sukit Thangthong, Senator representing Saraburi Province, Mr. Nithat Areewongskul, Vice Chairman of the Senate's Public Outreach Project Committee, and other senators. Local government officials, including Mr. Lertchai Sakolsaowapak, Deputy Governor of Saraburi Province, were also present.

During the visit, Mr. Nithat Areewongskul emphasized the importance of proactive communication with the public to prevent misunderstandings about BWG's waste management operations. Senator Nuanit Hongvivat highlighted the necessity of waste disposal for environmental and industrial systems, noting its benefits to the world.

BWG representatives assured the Senate committee of their commitment to transparency, offering to keep government agencies and stakeholders informed about their operations. They clarified that their engineered landfill system involves sophisticated components such as embankments, sub-base systems, and leachate collection systems, rather than simple waste burial.

The company detailed its leachate management process, explaining that collected leachate is treated and reused within the premises. BWG also described their monitoring systems, including groundwater wells that help assess environmental impacts. Furthermore, they addressed concerns related to hazardous waste, explaining reduction processes like pH adjustment and solidification to minimize contaminant leaching.

In response to a recent directive from the Department of Industrial Works, BWG has appealed the decision, arguing for a clear distinction between internal factory water management and external wastewater discharge. They stressed the need for a comprehensive evaluation of pollution sources within the watershed system, which includes diverse activities beyond industrial operations.

The Senate's visit emphasized the importance of continuous, factual communication by BWG to foster public understanding of industrial waste management practices. As a result, BWG has become a learning hub for government bodies, private enterprises, and educational institutions. On June 15, 2026, students and faculty from Suranaree University of Technology's Environmental Engineering Department visited BWG, gaining practical insights into environmental engineering.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Boonchai Vijitsethian from Suranaree University underscored the educational value of exposing students to real-world waste management systems, noting the potential to inspire future environmental professionals.
