Ubon ratchathani: Three medical teams were mobilized to perform surgery on Sergeant Major Chanarong Wongchana, who stepped on a landmine while on duty with the Humanitarian Mine Action Center (TMAC) near Chong An Ma, Nam Yuen District.
According to Thai News Agency, the incident occurred on August 17, 2026, and involved Sergeant Major Chanarong of the 2nd Infantry Battalion, 2nd Infantry Regiment, Royal Guard. He sustained severe injuries, including the amputation of his right leg at the ankle, a laceration on the back of his left thigh, and injuries to his right hand. Initially, medical personnel provided assistance and transported him to Nam Yuen Hospital for emergency treatment, where doctors stopped the bleeding and stabilized his condition.
The Sky Doctor team from the 2nd Army Area Command facilitated an air transfer from Weerawat Yothin Camp Hospital to Sapphasitprasong Camp Hospital for further treatment by a specialist medical team. Upon arrival, the medical team, led by Colonel Surang Wittayawongsruji, assessed his condition and planned the necessary surgical procedures. The surgery included amputation of the right leg below the knee, debridement of the left thigh wound, and surgical stenting of the injured fingers on his right hand.
The surgical team, comprising Colonel Kongkiat Ingkanan and Captain Supawan Boonnan, successfully performed the operations. Post-surgery, Sergeant Major Chanarong was conscious, breathing independently, and maintaining normal vital signs. He is currently being closely monitored in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at Sapphasitprasong Camp Hospital, where the medical team continues to provide ongoing care and treatment.
