SET and TGO Collaborate to Strengthen Thailand’s Carbon Market through Human Resource Development

Bangkok: The Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET) partners with the Thailand Greenhouse Gas Management Organization (TGO) in a significant collaboration aimed at fortifying Thailand's carbon market by developing human resource capabilities. The two entities have signed a three-year cooperation agreement to enhance the capacity of experts and increase the number of greenhouse gas validators. This initiative is designed to facilitate data connectivity through the SET Carbon Platform, thereby supporting the carbon market and aiding the transition to a low-carbon economy, which ultimately boosts Thailand's competitiveness.

According to Thai News Agency, the memorandum of understanding (MOU) signed between SET and TGO focuses on academic cooperation to prepare for climate change through expert capacity building and an increase in greenhouse gas auditors. The collaboration seeks to promote greenhouse gas reduction mechanisms, establish a carbon market, and ensure data connectivity to the SET Carbon platform. This is expected to facilitate the transition of Thai businesses to a low-carbon economy and sustainable finance, thereby enhancing the country's long-term competitiveness.

Mr. Assadej Kongsiri, President and CEO of the Stock Exchange of Thailand, highlighted that the SET Carbon Platform is set to receive certification from the Thailand Greenhouse Gas Management Organization in 2025. This platform will allow listed companies to calculate and disclose greenhouse gas emissions data in line with Securities and Exchange Commission regulations, with data verified by TGO-certified experts. The partnership aims to enhance the capabilities of experts and increase the number of verifiers. SET will utilize its experience in maintaining examination standards through its Exam platform and centers to support efficient examination procedures, promoting learning and data connectivity related to the carbon market ecosystem. This will improve the reliability of greenhouse gas data, build confidence among investors and stakeholders, and reinforce SET's vision as "The Trusted Gateway to Inclusive Opportunities."

Mr. Nakorn Trakwiraphat, Director of TGO, emphasized the organization's role in promoting greenhouse gas reduction efforts in Thailand. The establishment of the Climate Action Academy by TGO is a key mission, and SET's cooperation will help overcome limitations and meet the demand for personnel such as ecosystem validators and carbon market auditors, ensuring transparency and adherence to internationally recognized standards. This will increase credibility and effectively support the growth of greenhouse gas reduction mechanisms and the domestic carbon market.

The MOU between the Stock Exchange of Thailand and TGO, lasting three years, aims to develop quality personnel, promote mechanisms for reducing greenhouse gas emissions, and drive economic, social, and environmental development, leading Thailand towards a sustainable Net Zero objective.
