Shin-Hanul 1 nuclear reactor under suspension after reporting malfunction

The Shin-Hanul 1 nuclear reactor in southern South Korea halted its operations Thursday due to technical issues, according to the state-run nuclear power agency, although no safety concerns were identified. The nuclear reactor in Uljin, 218 kilometers southeast of Seoul, had its turbine automatically suspended at 7:07 a.m. due to a false low-voltage signal, according to Korea Hydro and Nuclear Power (KHNP). The operator said the reactor will resume operations after undergoing maintenance. The 1.4-gigawatt reactor, which began commercial operations in December 2022, is the sister reactor of Shin-Hanul 2 that began its operations in April. KHNP earlier planned to hold a completion ceremony for the Shin-Hanul reactors in the afternoon, but the ceremony has been postponed due to the disruption. Source: Yonhap News Agency
