Sinphuhom finds more natural gas

Sinphuhom Natural Gas Production Project has found additional natural gas. Initial estimates of natural gas flow rate are 30 million cubic feet per day. Preparations are being made to send it to Nam Phong Power Plant to increase its electricity production potential. Mr. Warakorn Prommobol, Director-General of the Department of Mineral Fuels, revealed that according to PTTEP SP Limited's notification to the Department of Mineral Fuels that it had drilled the PH-14 evaluation well of the Sinphuhom natural gas production project and found natural gas, this is good news for the country's energy because the natural gas produced can be used to supply the Nam Phong Power Plant in Khon Kaen Province to create continuous stability in the electricity system in the Northeastern region. PTTEP SP Limited is the concessionaire of petroleum concession No. 1/2524/19, onshore exploration block No. EU1 and the concessionaire of petroleum concession No. 2/2522/17, onshore exploration block No. E5N or Sinphuhom natural gas pr oduction project covering the areas of Khon Kaen and Udon Thani provinces. It has been producing natural gas and liquefied natural gas. As of the end of May 2024, the average natural gas production rate was approximately 95 million cubic feet per day and the average liquefied natural gas production rate was approximately 200 barrels per day. 'On July 1, 2024, the Company drilled the PH-14 appraisal well of the Sinphuhom natural gas production project according to the operation plan and found natural gas. Initially, the Company estimated the natural gas flow rate at approximately 30 million cubic feet per day, which will benefit the country with additional energy sources and enable it to be self-sufficient in energy amidst the current uncertainty of the global energy situation, creating stability in the Northeastern power system because the natural gas produced from this petroleum source will be used as the main fuel for electricity generation at the Nam Phong Power Plant located in Khon Kaen Province. In add ition, the country will also benefit from royalties and petroleum income tax to be used for national development in various aspects,' said the Director-General of the Department of Mineral Fuels. The Department of Mineral Fuels, as a government agency that oversees petroleum exploration and production in Thailand, has always taken into account environmental safety as a priority along with creating energy security for the country. In drilling petroleum production wells this time, the Department of Mineral Fuels has instructed the company to implement various measures to monitor environmental impacts, including monitoring air quality, odor, and noise levels to ensure they are within standard levels and have the least impact on local residents.
