Lampang: A hazardous incident unfolded on the Lampang-Phayao Road, opposite Mountain View Village in the Phichai Subdistrict, Mueang District, Lampang Province, when seven cars skidded and crashed due to slippery asphalt conditions. The accidents, which occurred around 8:00 a.m., left one person injured while the rest escaped without harm. However, the vehicles sustained significant damage.
According to Thai News Agency, the chain of accidents began when a villager’s car lost control and veered off the road, crashing into a tree. The sequence of events was triggered by the slippery road conditions exacerbated by rain. The road had not been closed to traffic despite the asphalt being freshly laid, contributing to the hazardous situation. Among the affected vehicles was a reporter’s car en route to Mae Mo District, which also lost control and ended up off the road.
The reporter’s car, traveling on the asphalt road’s far right lane, encountered the treacherous conditions first. The asphalt, still slick, combined with the rainfall, caused the vehicle to skid and spin uncontrollably, eventually leaving the roadway. Following this incident, other vehicles traveling behind experienced similar fates, with some flipping over as they spun out and left the road.
In the aftermath, rescue workers and police from Phichai Subdistrict Police Station promptly intervened by closing the asphalt road to prevent further accidents. The closure was deemed necessary as the morning traffic posed a continued risk of additional vehicles slipping and crashing under the dangerous road conditions.
