Small blaze extinguished at Central World shopping mall in Bangkok

A fire broke out at Central World shopping mall in Bangkok this afternoon (Saturday), but it was quickly extinguished, the company said in a statement.

According to the company, it took about ten minutes for security officers at the mall to put the fire out and business resumed as usual with no injuries reported.

The zone in the mall where the fire occurred was temporarily closed, as staff tried to deal with the smoke inside the building.

Some shoppers later posted on their Twitter accounts that they did not hear any fire alarms during the incident, wondering whether the alarm system was functioning properly.

One tweeter claimed that he was about five metres from where the fire started and saw the flames, without which he would not have known that there was a fire, because there were no fire alarms.

Another tweeter said he knew there was a fire when several shoppers ran out of the premises.
