Khon Kaen:The Court of Appeals Region 4 has granted bail to Somrak Khamsing in a child abduction case involving a 17-year-old girl. Khamsing, a former Olympic gold medalist boxer and actor, maintains his innocence and is determined to continue his legal battle.
According to Thai News Agency, the court overturned a lower court's decision, acquitting Khamsing of attempted rape by force. However, he received a sentence of 1 year and 12 months for abducting a minor over the age of 15 but under 18 for indecent purposes. Additionally, he was ordered to pay 250,000 baht in total compensation to the plaintiff. The lower court's ruling against the second defendant, Phitsanulok Chinehanta, was upheld.
The incident occurred on December 10, 2023, when Khamsing allegedly took the woman from an entertainment venue to his hotel room, where he committed indecent acts. Upon learning she was 17, the victim contacted a friend to pick her up, and they subsequently reported the matter to the police. On January 23, 2025, Khamsing was initially sentenced to over two years in prison by a lower court, and bail was set at 300,000 baht, which he posted while appealing the decision.
Following the recent court decision, Khamsing was temporarily released after posting bail. As he left the detention room, he expressed gratitude to his family and fans for their support, reiterating his intention to fight the charges based on law and facts to allow all parties to return to their lives.
