Son-in-Law Defends Mother-in-Law, Injures Her Abusive Lover in Buriram

Buriram: A dutiful son-in-law intervened to protect his mother-in-law from her abusive lover, resulting in a severe injury to the latter.

According to Thai News Agency, the incident occurred in Nong Porong village, where Mr. Kanya, 41, confronted Mr. Sayan, 57, who was threatening his mother-in-law with a machete. In the ensuing struggle, Mr. Kanya managed to wrest the weapon away and slash Mr. Sayan in the neck, causing substantial injury.

Emergency medical personnel and an ambulance from Buriram Hospital responded to the scene, finding Mr. Sayan barely breathing with severe neck wounds. First aid was administered before he was transported to the hospital for further treatment. Meanwhile, Mr. Kanya awaited his arrest at the village headman's office, ready to surrender.

Ms. Linda, the injured man's girlfriend, provided a detailed account of the events leading up to the altercation. She explained that after her foreign husband's death, Mr. Sayan, who had persistently pursued her, moved into her home for seven years and refused to leave. On the day of the incident, both men had been drinking when an argument erupted between Ms. Linda and Mr. Sayan, escalating to the point where he brandished a machete. Her son-in-law intervened, resulting in the injury.

Mr. Kanya admitted his actions were prompted by the need to protect his mother-in-law and himself, acknowledging that his intoxicated state contributed to his impulsive behavior. He expressed remorse for the incident.

The Buriram City Police Station has initially charged Mr. Kanya with assault, and investigators are now tasked with examining the details and evidence to determine the appropriate legal course of action.
