Sophon Saram’s Initiative Turns Parliament Into Marketplace for Local Thai Products

Bangkok: "Sophon" champions the new parliament as a "parliament of the people," opening up a space to showcase quality products from across Thailand.

According to Thai News Agency, Sophon Saram, President of the Parliament and Speaker of the House of Representatives, has expressed satisfaction with the Parliament's initiative to host events showcasing local products. During his visit to the Emerald Pool area of the Parliament building, he highlighted the initiative's success in Ang Thong province, where sales exceeded 300,000 baht in just one day, with expectations to surpass 1 million baht over three days.

Mr. Sophon emphasized the event's alignment with his vision for a modern Parliament that serves as a "Parliament of the People." The initiative aims to diversify Parliament's role beyond legislative duties by providing a platform for public engagement, income generation, and promoting regional specialties. This year's event featured unique products, including Buriram province's mineral water durian and Samut Prakan's dried fish, underscoring the Parliament's commitment to alleviating economic challenges through the promotion of OTOP (One Tambon One Product) products.

In Prachinburi province, MP Sarit Butnean supported local entrepreneurs by showcasing Thai herbal products and traditional medicine. Meanwhile, Ang Thong MP and Government Whip Chairman, Koravee Prisnanantakul, reported significant sales success at Ang Thong's booth. Mr. Sophon Saram expressed optimism about the future, revealing plans to involve state enterprises and local communities more extensively, inviting them to market their quality products to government agencies. He encouraged interested parties to engage through MPs, ministries, or the Secretariat of the House of Representatives.

Mr. Sophon concluded by highlighting the positive collaboration between legislative and executive branches, aiming to establish Parliament as a new landmark for public benefit, with ongoing plans to maximize its impact for the people.
