Bangkok: Six southern provinces of Thailand are on high alert as they brace for an 80% chance of heavy rain. The Meteorological Department issued a warning for Ranong, Phang Nga, Phuket, Krabi, Trang, and Satun, urging residents to prepare for significant rainfall expected to cover these areas.
According to Thai News Agency, the forecast indicates that the southwest monsoon, combined with a strong low-pressure system off the central coast of Vietnam, will continue to bring inclement weather to Thailand. The western part of southern Thailand is likely to experience very heavy rain, which could lead to flash floods and landslides, particularly in regions near waterways and low-lying areas.
The Andaman Sea is expected to witness strong waves, especially from Phuket northward, with wave heights reaching 2-3 meters and exceeding 3 meters during thunderstorms. The lower Andaman Sea and the upper Gulf of Thailand will also see significant wave activity, with waves reaching up to 2 meters during stormy conditions. Mariners are advised to exercise caution and avoid navigating through areas experiencing thunderstorms, while small boats in the upper Andaman Sea are recommended to stay ashore during this period.
The weather forecast for the rest of Thailand shows varying chances of thunderstorms and rain across different regions. The northern region will see a 40% chance of thunderstorms, with temperatures ranging from 22-37 degrees Celsius. The northeast region will also have a 40% chance of rain, with temperatures between 23-38 degrees Celsius. The central and eastern regions are expected to have a 60% chance of thunderstorms, with temperatures ranging from 23-37 degrees Celsius. Meanwhile, Bangkok and surrounding areas will experience a 60% chance of thunderstorms and temperatures between 25-37 degrees Celsius.
As Thailand faces this period of adverse weather, residents are encouraged to stay informed and take necessary precautions to ensure their safety and mitigate potential impacts from the heavy rainfall.
