Bangkok: Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Natural Resources and Environment, Mr. Suchart Chomklin, stated he has not yet engaged in discussions with Mr. Santhaya Khunpluem regarding the division of areas in Chonburi. He mentioned that the decision awaits deliberations by the party head and secretary-general, expressing satisfaction with the current division of five areas and his selection of candidates within known territories.
According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Suchart addressed the Khunpluem family's potential affiliation with the Bhumjaithai Party, acknowledging the political maneuvering underway in anticipation of upcoming elections. He emphasized the necessity for stable affiliations that promise national prosperity, and expressed openness to collaboration with knowledgeable and politically adept individuals, regardless of specific provincial oversight.
Mr. Suchart clarified that, as a junior party member without an official role within the Bhumjaithai Party, he defers discussions about area oversight to senior party leaders. He acknowledged that political suitability and public response should guide area leadership decisions, rather than arbitrary demarcations. Highlighting his familiarity with Mueang District, he noted his lack of connection to areas like Bang Lamung or Sattahip.
He revealed his candidate selections for five districts-Mueang, Phan Thong, Phanat Nikhom, Ban Bueng, Bo Thong, and Nong Yai-emphasizing his birthplace in Mueang District and his comfort within familiar territories. Mr. Suchart expressed his readiness to serve these areas, acknowledging his limitations in unfamiliar districts.
When asked about reserving districts, Mr. Suchart clarified his approach based on expertise and local familiarity, noting that the candidates he selected were former MPs. He emphasized the importance of aligning his political actions with public benefit, cautioning against overextending beyond his areas of expertise.
