Sukhothai: Sukhothai’s economic zone is once again grappling with severe flooding as the Yom River’s water level rises. Key economic districts in Sukhothai city are experiencing significant impacts, with the water levels in Ban Kluai subdistrict remaining stable but reaching depths of over a meter in some areas. Sukhothai Hospital is notably surrounded by floodwaters, complicating access to the facility.
According to Thai News Agency, the flooding in Sukhothai persists as the Yom River continues to rise, following heavy rains in the northern Si Satchanalai District. This has resulted in increased water flow into the lower districts. The Mae Lamphan Canal is also overflowing, contributing to the constant flooding in the area. In the western economic districts within Sukhothai Thani Municipality, road surfaces are submerged under 30-40 centimeters of water, posing challenges for small vehicles attempting to navigate the area.
Vendors at Trirat Market have been compelled to evacuate, setting up their stalls on the sidewalk in front of Wat Ratchathani in the eastern part of Sukhothai Thani Municipality, where the floodwaters have not yet reached. In Ban Kluai Subdistrict, while the water levels remain stable, some areas are over a meter deep, making Charoenwithi Road impassable for small vehicles. At Sukhothai Hospital, the surrounding floodwaters have restricted access, necessitating the use of six-wheeled vehicles for transportation and requiring wheelchair patients to be lifted into the facility.
