Udon Thani:Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Commerce, Supajee, visited the Ban Don Kloi community enterprise to promote the 'Precision Rice' project, an initiative designed to encourage farmers to process and sell their own rice produce, reducing dependence on middlemen. This project focuses on enhancing the quality of rice rather than the quantity, thus increasing the value of the produce.
According to Thai News Agency, the visit to Phibun Rak District in Udon Thani Province was attended by Supajee Suthamphan, along with Mr. Poonpong Naiyanapakorn, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Commerce, Mr. Wattanasak Suea-iam, Director-General of the Department of Internal Trade, and other ministry executives. The purpose was to monitor the progress of the project, which is supported by a budget of 120 million baht and aims to assist 466 farmer groups nationwide in becoming self-reliant by developing, processing, and marketing high-quality rice.
The Ministry of Commerce's objective is to transition Thai rice from a focus on quantity and price competition to creating value through quality and unique characteristics. This involves supporting farmers in production processes, packaging, branding, and establishing market connections, thereby enabling them to sell rice at premium prices and achieve sustainable income growth.
The Ban Don Kloi Community Enterprise offers a range of rice products, including Jasmine Rice 105, Jasmine Rice in the milky stage, Black Glutinous Rice, Red Glutinous Rice, Riceberry Rice, Glutinous Rice Kor Khor 6, and a blend of five rice varieties. These products, distinguished by their color, aroma, taste, and texture, are developed to cater to diverse consumer preferences.
