Narathiwat:Three individuals have received final sentences for their involvement in a shooting attack on January 9, 2021, in Yingor District, Narathiwat Province. The Supreme Court's verdict confirms the sentences initially handed down by the Court of Appeals Region 9.
According to Thai News Agency, the Supreme Court reviewed the prosecution's evidence and upheld the Court of Appeals Region 9's decision. Mr. Anas (surname withheld), Defendant 1, was sentenced to 34 years and 20 months imprisonment. Mr. Hamdan (surname withheld), Defendant 2, and Mr. Muhammad Sabri (surname withheld), Defendant 3, received life imprisonment sentences.
The case originated from a shooting in Thung Kha-Manangtayo village, where Mr. Prasit Thawornsri was injured. The defendants were charged with terrorism, criminal conspiracy, attempted murder with premeditation, and violations of the Firearms and Explosives Act.
Initially, the Narathiwat Provincial Court sentenced all three defendants to death on April 30, 2024. However, Mr. Anas's confession led to his sentence being reduced to life imprisonment. The Court of Appeals later further reduced his sentence to 34 years and 20 months, while the other two defendants were sentenced to life imprisonment.
With the Supreme Court's decision, the case has reached its conclusion, and the sentences are now final, marking the end of a complex judicial process involving multiple levels of review.
