Surat: Suratin Picharn, the leader of the New Democracy Party, has announced his plan to guide four MPs from small parties in supporting Anutin Charnvirakul as the new Prime Minister. This move is driven by his desire to see the resolution of the Thai-Cambodian border conflict.
According to Thai News Agency, Suratin Picharn, who is also a party-list MP, expressed his party's decision following the Constitutional Court's ruling favoring Paethongtarn Shinawatra as Prime Minister. The New Democracy Party has decided to back Anutin Charnvirakul, leader of the Bhumjaithai Party, for the prime ministerial position. Suratin emphasized the importance of resolving the Thai-Cambodian border issue, fearing that if Chaikasem Nitisiri of the Pheu Thai Party becomes Prime Minister, the conflict may persist, potentially causing further damage.
Suratin, a former border teacher, voiced his concerns about the potential losses for border communities. He stressed the need to prevent further suffering and economic repercussions for the border residents. In response to inquiries about the New Democratic Party's previous support for the government, Suratin explained that the decision was based on the people's demand at that time. However, he now feels a commitment to change, promising his superiors that he is ready to support Mr. Anutin.
Suratin further clarified his stance, stating that he is not persuading others to change their votes but urging them to consider the lives lost at the border and the country's progress. He highlighted the narrow margin of four votes between Anutin's camp and the original coalition. He also expressed willingness to take on a ministerial role, even for a short period, to address national issues effectively.
