Bangkok: Suratin Picharn, a party-list MP from the New Democracy Party, demonstrated his support for Anutin Charnvirakul as the next Prime Minister by bringing flowers to a gathering at the Bhumjaithai Party. Suratin, accompanied by party members, expressed his backing for Anutin, emphasizing that four MPs are prepared to vote in his favor.
According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Suratin highlighted that although the identities of the four supportive MPs remain undisclosed, they are actively coordinating and ready to endorse Anutin without any conditions. Suratin emphasized three main issues that underpin his support: addressing the rampant drug problem, improving economic conditions with a GDP growth lagging behind Myanmar, and enhancing border security. His background as a rural teacher has influenced his prioritization of these issues.
In response to inquiries about his interactions with General Prawit Wongsuwan, leader of the Palang Pracharath Party, Mr. Suratin confirmed that they had discussed supporting Anutin for the prime ministerial role. This conversation took place prior to his visit to the Bhumjaithai Party. Suratin expressed a preference for backing newer political alliances, suggesting it aligns with his aspirations for stability and progress.
Regarding potential ministerial roles, Mr. Suratin stated that he is leaving it to fate, with no personal expectations. His primary focus remains on tackling the critical issues he identified, regardless of his position within the government.
