Suvarnabhumi Airport Investigates Damaged Luggage Incident

Bangkok: Suvarnabhumi Airport has confirmed that passenger luggage was damaged while under the airport's responsibility, with no abnormalities found during the investigation.

According to Thai News Agency, the airport clarified the situation concerning the damaged luggage and lost belongings reported by a passenger. The passenger, who shared their experience on social media, traveled on flight VZ342 from Suvarnabhumi Airport to Krabi on August 21, 2026. Upon arrival, they discovered signs of tampering, damage, and missing property from their luggage.

The airport has acknowledged the incident and is conducting an urgent investigation in coordination with airlines, ground service providers, and relevant agencies to ascertain the facts. The standard procedure for outbound baggage involves a series of security checks, including the use of an Explosives Detection System (EDS), before being handled by the airline's ground service providers for loading onto the aircraft.

In this particular case, Suvarnabhumi Airport thoroughly reviewed its system and CCTV footage. The investigation showed that while the luggage was within the airport's baggage handling system, it remained in a CLEAR state throughout the security checks, indicating no detection of dangerous objects or explosives. Consequently, the luggage was automatically routed through the system without the need for further inspection by airport personnel and sent to the Make-up Unit for airline handling.

The implicated flight was operated by Thai Vietjet, which had contracted Pattaya Aviation Co., Ltd. for baggage services. The airline has participated in reviewing the CCTV footage and related information, and it has reached out to the affected passenger, expressing readiness to provide support and coordinate the ongoing investigation in line with relevant procedures.
