Bangkok: The transformation of the Taboh-Huai Yai area from a logging concession to a thriving wildlife sanctuary marks a significant milestone in conservation efforts.
According to Thai News Agency, the site was once a heavily logged region, leading to encroachment and deforestation. This degradation prompted urgent action to protect the area, which eventually led to its designation as the "Taboh-Huai Yai Wildlife Sanctuary" by a Royal Decree on June 10, 1997.
The sanctuary now covers 408,707 rai, equivalent to 653.9 square kilometers, across Phetchabun and Chaiyaphum provinces. It serves as a safe haven for wildlife, encompassing various subdistricts including Taboh, Bo Thai, and Tha Duang in Phetchabun, as well as Nang Daed and Wang Chomphu in Chaiyaphum. This transformation underscores the power of collective action and awareness in restoring natural habitats.
