Bangkok: Tai Penpak, a veteran actress aged 64, recently shared her profound experience of working in the movie “Suriyothai (2001),” a film commissioned by Her Majesty Queen Sirikit, the Queen Mother, to rekindle interest in Thai history. During the filming, Her Majesty presided over a blessing ceremony in Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya Province and later hosted a banquet at Bang Pa-In Palace, offering the actors a rare opportunity to meet her closely.
According to Thai News Agency, Tai expressed immense pride in being part of this iconic film, which she considers a national treasure. The film, directed by Than Mui, Mom Chao Chatrichalerm Yukol, involved meticulous research and significant royal involvement, with Her Majesty showing keen interest and support throughout the project. Tai emphasized the film’s uniqueness, noting its impressive sets, costumes, and the involvement of an international crew, making it a standout in Thai cinema.
Tai also recalled her emotional experiences with His Majesty King Rama IX, whom she had the honor of meeting annually on his birthday at Siriraj Hospital. Reflecting on these cherished memories, she expressed gratitude for the opportunity to be part of such significant moments in Thai history and culture. She noted the impact of King Rama IX’s passing and acknowledged the shift to a new era for future generations.
