Tha Song Yang: The Thai-Myanmar border in Tak Province has started to see a reduction in tensions following the successful seizure of a Myanmar military base by Karen soldiers. Despite this development, Thai soldiers continue to maintain their positions, vigilantly defending the Tak Province border around the clock.
According to Thai News Agency, the conflict, which involved Karen soldiers from the KNLA and KNDO factions, erupted with the use of drones carrying heavy bombs. This intense fighting began yesterday afternoon and extended until midnight. The Karen soldiers eventually surrounded and took control of the Myanmar military’s 24th Infantry Battalion at the Mo Phokae Base, located in the Langpai District of Karen State, Myanmar. The base lies approximately 500 meters from the border along the Moei River, directly opposite Ban Mae Tan, Mae Tan Sub-district, in Tha Song Yang District of Tak Province. The intense exchange of heavy and personal weaponry could be heard as far as the Tha Song Yang District Office, highlighting the proximity of the clashes.
By this morning, the Karen National Alliance (KNLA) had secured the Mo Phoke base, contributing to a decrease in tension along the border. Nevertheless, officials, including soldiers, border patrol police, and district administration, have heightened their vigilance. They have deployed fully armed officers to maintain control along the Thai-Myanmar border, increased patrol intensity, and established fire support units as per the incident response plan. These measures aim to prevent any foreign armed forces from compromising sovereignty and to ensure the security of residents along the border continuously.
