Thai Government Supports Innovative Ready-To-Eat Meals for Disaster Relief

Bangkok:The government is backing 'Grab Agro,' an innovative food product developed by Prince of Songkla University (PSU), designed to have a shelf life of 18 months without the need for refrigeration. A total of 3,000 boxes are being distributed to disaster victims to aid in relief efforts.

According to Thai News Agency, the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation (MHESI) is supporting PSU's research on "Grab Agro" ready-to-eat meals. These meals are being developed into emergency food solutions specifically for areas affected by floods, where transportation is difficult and power outages are common. The meals are designed to be easily portable and ready for immediate consumption, enhancing the efficiency of aid delivery.

Lieutenant Colonel Patthadarasmi Thongsalooykorn, Deputy Spokesperson for the Prime Minister's Office, emphasized the government's focus on utilizing Thai research and innovation from universities to assist the public. With the recent delivery of 3,000 "Grab Agro innovative food survival kits" to Silpakorn University, urgent distribution is underway to assist those affected by the floods.

The key feature of Grab Agro is its sterile food production technology that allows the meals to be stored for up to 18 months without refrigeration. The packaging includes separate compartments for rice and side dishes, making it suitable for areas experiencing power outages and transportation challenges.

The Deputy Spokesperson highlighted that this innovation is a testament to the practical application of Thai research, especially in crisis situations where access to food is critical. The ready-to-eat meals offer a variety of Thai dishes and are certified by the Thai Food and Drug Administration and Halal.

Silpakorn University is acting as the central hub for receiving and distributing the aid, with the Student Council coordinating volunteer efforts to prepare and distribute relief packages to flood victims in Nakhon Pathom, Kanchanaburi, and surrounding areas. The government is committed to leveraging Thai research and innovation to address real-world problems and is ready to support further development to ensure that Thai research plays a crucial role in overcoming crises.
