Nonthaburi:The Thai national blind football team is gearing up for the 2026 Asian Para Games, with aspirations of reaching the finals. Intensive training sessions are underway at the Emphan Sports Center in Nonthaburi province as the team readies itself for the 5th Asian Para Games 'Aichi-Nagoya 2026' in Japan. Previously, the team secured a bronze medal at the Asian Para Games in Hangzhou, China, and now aims to elevate their performance.
According to Thai News Agency, the Thai squad, comprised of 10 players, is in near peak physical condition. The team is led by prominent players "View" Kittikorn Buadee and "Tao" Tanakorn Thananworakorn, with emerging talents like "Pong" Somchai Makong and "Arm" Satayu Wannit expected to strengthen the team's offensive strategies.
German Marquez, the head coach of the Thai national team, emphasized the importance of a robust defense complemented by effective attacking play. He acknowledged the strong preparation of all participating teams and stressed the need for his players to maintain focus during matches. The opening game against Iran, the previous tournament's silver medalists, poses a significant challenge, but Marquez is optimistic about securing the first point and progressing to the finals.
The men's blind football event at the 2026 Asian Para Games will see participation from six nations Japan, China, Thailand, Iran, India, and South Korea. Scheduled to take place from October 16-23 in Nagoya, the Thai team is set to depart for Japan on October 11.
