Thai Taekwondo Team Gears Up for Gold at 2025 SEA Games

Bangkok: Thai taekwondo announced its win of the SEA Games gold medal, with confidence that poomsae will be the first gold medal for the Thai athletes. The Thai national taekwondo team competing in the 2025 SEA Games is continuously training at the Sports Authority of Thailand, Huamark, under the supervision of head coach “Coach Che” Chatchai Che. For the fighting category, Thailand has sent 14 athletes from every weight class, divided into 7 male athletes: Wisawasak Jaichu in the 54 kg category, Sirawit Mahamad in the 58 kg category, Thanapoom Fueangnoi in the 63 kg category, Banlang Thapthimdaeng in the 68 kg category, Kritcha Prompaj in the 74 kg category, Thanathorn Saejo in the 80 kg category, and Chaiyachon Cho in the 87 kg category.

According to Thai News Agency, the seven female athletes are Patcharakan Poolkerd in the 46 kg category; Kamonchanok Siken in the 49 kg category; Chutikan Jongkolrattanawatana in the 53 kg category; Pannapa Hansuchin in the 57 kg category; Sasikan Thongchan in the 62 kg category; Piyachattha Chariwan in the 67 kg category; and Kanchanalak Chuenchuklin in the 73 kg category.

Coach Chachai Cha revealed that Banlang Tubtimdaeng, Phannapha Hansuchin, and Sasikan Thongchan will not compete in the World Taekwondo Grand Prix Challenge because they want to focus on the SEA Games and prevent injuries. He believes the Thai fighting team will win more than five gold medals and reign supreme once again.

“Yu” Banlang Tubtimdaeng, the 2025 world champion kickboxer, said that this SEA Games will be his first. He is determined to perform at his best and aims to win a gold medal for Thai sports fans. In the poomsae, under the supervision of South Korean head coach Lee Na-yeon, 13 athletes will compete: Thitaree Kaewolarawasu, Sasipa Chuphon, Chutikan Lapnityaphan, Watcharakul Limjittrakarn, Sarisa Thaithonglang, Chonlakon Chayawattho, Ratchadawan Tapianthong, Thana Khiewlailert, Sipakorn Wetchakrapativong, Nawin Pintasut, Peerapat Trakanwichit, Atchariya Kerdkaew, and Natthachai Suta.

Coach Lee Na-yeon expressed confidence that the team will be able to produce results as expected, winning at least 2-3 gold medals, and will win the first gold medal for the Thai athletes from “Nong Nano” Watcharakul Limjittrakarn in the women’s individual freestyle event.

For the 33rd SEA Games Taekwondo, there will be 20 gold medals up for grabs, with 14 gold medals in Kyorugi, or fighting, and 6 gold medals in Poomsae, or dance. Competition begins on December 10th at Fashion Island.
