Bangkok: Thai weightlifters swept four awards at the 2025 Athletes of the Year Awards. The Amateur Weightlifting Association of Thailand achieved great success at the 2025 "Outstanding Athlete" awards ceremony organized by the Sports Journalists Association of Thailand, winning four prestigious awards for its outstanding achievements throughout the past year.
According to Thai News Agency, the awards included Flight Sergeant Weerapol Wichuma winning the Best Male Amateur Athlete award, Thanaporn Saetia receiving the Best Female Youth Athlete award, the Amateur Weightlifting Association of Thailand receiving the Best Sports Association award, and Acting Sub-Lieutenant Sakchai Thitacharee winning the Best Sports Coach award.
As for Weerapol, he achieved world-class results by winning two gold medals at the 2025 World Championships and breaking the world record in the men's 71 kg category. He then broke his own record again at the 33rd SEA Games in Thailand, leading to him being recognized as the best male amateur athlete of the year.
