Chiang mai: The Thai women's volleyball team emerged victorious against Vietnam, securing the CV Cup 2026, Stage 2, with a decisive 3-0 set win in front of a packed stadium at the Gymnasium 1 of the Chiang Mai 700th Anniversary Sports Complex.
According to Thai News Agency, the Thai national team, led by head coach Kiattipong Ratchatagriengkrai, dominated the match with a starting lineup featuring captain Pornpun Guedparach, Chatchuon Moksri, Thaddao Nuekjaeng, Sasipaporn Chantavisut, Pimpichaya Kokram, Kaewkallaya Kamulthala, and libero Kalyarat Khamwong. Vietnam, despite their efforts, could not withstand the diverse offensive strategies and robust defense put forth by Thailand, led by their captain Tran Thi Thanh Thuy. The Thai team secured the victory with set scores of 25-20, 25-10, and 25-15. This win marks Thailand's third consecutive triumph without dropping a set, earning them the championship title with a perfect score of 9 points. The Philippines secured second place, Indonesia third, and Vietnam fourth.
Coach Kiattipong Ratchatagriangrai expressed his gratitude towards the players and coaching staff after the match. He emphasized the team's focus on preparing for the upcoming Asian Championship in China. Team members "Chompoo" Pornpan and "Nan" Thaddao expressed their joy in contributing to the team's success, acknowledging areas for improvement despite the victory. Their sights are now set on the Asian Championship, with aspirations of winning the title or at least reaching the finals.
The Thai women's volleyball team is set to compete in the 2026 Asian Women's Volleyball Championship from August 21-30 in Tianjin, China. As defending champions, Thailand will compete in Group B alongside Kazakhstan, Indonesia, and Australia. The tournament winner will earn a spot in the 2028 Olympic Games, while the top three teams will qualify for the 2027 World Championship.
